Ed Gabriel Memorial Service

Federal officials including HHS Secretary Alex Azar and Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response Robert Kadlec paid tribute in a ceremony honoring Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response Ed Gabriel, who died following a brief illness on January 5, 2020.

Before coming to HHS in 2011, Gabriel served as director of global crisis management and business continuity for the Walt Disney Corp. That was preceded by a distinguished career in EMS that included serving as assistant chief of EMS for FDNY—responding to the World Trade Center and narrowly missing death on 9/11—and as deputy commissioner of planning and preparedness for the New York City mayor's Office of Emergency Management.

Gabriel was also a longtime editorial advisory board member for EMS World.
