Man Makes Bomb Threat While Arriving by Ambulance at Fla. Hospital
Feb. 10--JUPITER -- A 57-year-old man picked the wrong time to make a bomb threat, police said.
Howard David Ballew, made the threat against Jupiter Medical Center to a rescue crew Sunday evening, just as the ambulance in which he was riding pulled up to the hospital emergency room, Jupiter police said.
The ambulance crew reported the threat, and a police dog and a bomb unit checked the hospital and later cleared it, police spokesman Adam Brown said.
He did not know Sunday night if Ballew still was being treated but said he will be criminally charged and eventually will be booked in the Palm Beach County jail.
Brown did not immediately know Ballew's medical problem or Ballew's current home town.
Palm Beach County jail records show Ballew was living in Lake Park when he was arrested in August 1998 for trespassing and violating probation on a DUI conviction, and in September 1998 for disorderly conduct; and was living in Cocoa Beach in November 2013 when Jupiter police booked him on an out-of-town warrant.
