Calif. Toddler Dies after Ingesting Chili Powder; Woman Arrested
Jan. 08--APPLE VALLEY -- A High Desert woman was arrested Monday in connection to the alleged abuse and death of a 2-year-old girl.
San Bernardino County homicide detectives are investigating the circumstances of the girl's death who died from complications after ingesting chili powder on Sunday.
Deputies were called to the 20000 block of Cayuga Road when they found the toddler suffering from a seizure after ingesting the powder.
The girl was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
Amanda Sorensen, 21, of Apple Valley was arrested following an initial investigation into the toddler's death.
Sorensen is the girlfriend of the toddler's father, said sheriff's spokeswoman Jodi Miller. The names of the toddler and father were not released.
She was booked into the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga and is being held on $500,000 bail.
She is scheduled for court on Jan. 9.
