Virtual Reality for Wound Care Patients

Patients at the Rockyview General Hospital (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) are among the first in Cananda to use virtual reality while receiving wound care. To help ease pain and anxiety during treatment, a Samsung Gear virtual reality headsets (Seoul, South Korea) transport patients to an immersive, three-dimensional environment such as a lakeside campground or an ocean with dolphins. In-hospital research on the use of virtual reality has shown a 75% reduction in discomfort and a 31% improvement in overall patient experience during wound care treatments, prompting plans to expand use to other units.
