Topical Oxygen Therapy Effective in Healing DFUs

Initial results from a randomized controlled trial (RCT) demonstrated the efficacy of Topical Wound Oxygen home care therapy from AOTI Inc (Oceanside, CA) in healing diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs). The results were shared as a Late Breaking Abstract at the American Diabetes Association 78th Scientific Sessions (Orlando, FL).

The double-blinded, placebo-controlled, multinational RCT found that 41.7% of topical oxygen-treated DFUs healed completely in 12 weeks compared with only 13.5% of DFUs treated with standard of care alone. In addition, the topical oxygen therapy showed nearly 4 times the likelihood to completely heal ulcers compared with standard of care.
