Skin Barrier Reduces Ostomy Care Costs

A recent study published in Journal of Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing demonstrated that the CeraPlus skin barrier (Hollister Inc, Libertyville, IL) had a positive impact on stoma-related cost of care and peristomal skin health. Patients who used the product, an ostomy skin barrier infused with ceramide, experienced a clinically meaningful reduction in peristomal skin complications. These skin complications were also more likely to resolve in a 4-week period. The ADVOCATE (A Randomized Controlled Trial Determining the Variances in Ostomy Skin Conditions And The Economic Impact) study also showed a statistically significant cost savings over the 12-week study period.
