Results Show Benefits to Pressure Monitoring System

A study published in International Journal of Nursing Studies showed that patients who used the Leaf Patient Sensor (Leaf Healthcare, Inc, Pleasanton, CA) had a reduced rate of pressure injury development, which translated into a significant decrease in hospital-acquired pressure injuries. The prospective, randomized controlled trial of 1200 patients analyzed over 100 000 hours of data and found that patients with the sensor were 73% less likely to develop a pressure injury.

The sensor continually monitors patient movement, regardless of position or ambulation, and notifies providers if repositioning is required to prevent pressure injuries. This recent study is similar to others that have shown the sensor improves patient mobility, reduces pressure injury rates, enhances caregiver workflow, and saves treatment costs.
