Product Trial Confirms Reduction in Pressure Injuries

A clinical trial evaluating DermaTherapy (Standard Textile and Precision Fabrics Group, Cincinnati, OH) technology found that these specialty linens can help prevent pressure injuries when used in addition to standard of care. The product, a silk-like therapeutic bedding linen with US Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance, is the only one of its kind to help reduce the likelihood of pressure injuries.

The study of nearly 4000 high-risk patients in cardiovascular and surgical intensive care units found that the linens led to a significant reduction in pressure injuries due to reduced shear and friction and controlled moisture and heat. According to the study, a 46% reduction of posterior pressure injuries has a health care cost savings of nearly $4 million.
