Ostomy Skin Barrier Product Reduces Cost of Care
A recent study by Hollister Incorporated (Libertyville, IL) demonstrated the positive impact of the company’s CeraPlus ostomy skin barrier. The ADVOCATE (A Randomized Controlled Trial Determining the Variances in Ostomy Skin Conditions and the Economic Impact) study showed that patients who used the ceramide-infused ostomy skin barrier experienced a 26.9% reduction in peristomal skin complications. In addition, peristomal skin complications were significantly more likely to resolve in a 4-week period. The skin barrier also demonstrated a 14% relative reduction in stoma-related cost of care for supplies and select accessories, topical treatments, and health care visits.
