Foam Dressing Significantly Reduces Pressure Ulcers
02/15/2018
Smith & Nephew (Fort Worth, TX) announced that ALLEVYN LIFE was shown to significantly reduce the onset of pressure ulcers in a study published in International Wound Journal. The randomized controlled trial of 359 elderly hip fracture patients demonstrated that 4.5% of patients who received the multilayer, silicone, adhesive foam dressing in addition to standard care developed a pressure ulcer, a 71% reduction from the 15.4% of patients who received standard care alone. This new study aligns with other recent research demonstrating the effectiveness of the dressing as part of a comprehensive pressure ulcer prevention protocol.
