Indiana Hospital Expansion to Include Wound Care Center
Officials at Franciscan Health Lafayette (IN) East, Lafayette, IN, have announced plans for a $60-million expansion project that will include a new outpatient wound care clinic.
Work on the expansion is near completion, according to a report by News 18 WLFI.com, a local news outlet. The new campus expansion will house wound care, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, rehabilitation, and sleep center services, departments which are relocating from the hospital’s central campus. New patients are expected to start being seen at the new location as of April 11.
Charity Event Raises Money For Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine
A local charity event helped to raise $90,000 to launch a new hyperbaric medicine and wound care program at Aurora Memorial Hospital, Burlington, WI, according to a report by RacineCounty.com. The event, the 15th annual Crystal Ball, was held Feb. 3 in Burlington. Michael J. Majewski, MD, an obstetrician who is scheduled to retire in 2018, served as the honorary chairman of the event, according to the report. Guests at the semiformal event participated in a silent and live auction, ate a gourmet meal, and danced to live music as part of the fundraising efforts. The proceeds will support a new hyperbaric medicine and wound care program that is expected to launch later this year. The program also reportedly received $1 million in support from the Memorial Hospital of Burlington Community Foundation. Previous event proceeds supported enhancements in cancer care and as the new Aurora Cancer Center – Southern Lakes, according to the report.
Hospital Gift To Support New Wound Clinic
A donation from the S.H. Ho Foundation totaling $2.5 million will reportedly be used to help upgrade a wound care center and gastroenterology lab at Glendale (CA) Memorial Hospital. According to a report by the Glendale News-Press, the donation is the largest philanthropic gift in the hospital’s history and is part of $4.1 million (toward a goal of $5 million) that has been raised for hospital expansion and improvements.
Texas Wound Care Center Opens New Location
Officials at CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Wound Care Center, Tyler, TX, recently opened their new, expanded outpatient wound care clinic location. The new facility offers more exam rooms and technology, as well as improved accessibility for patients, according to a report by the Gilmer Mirror. The wound clinic is an accredited “Center of Distinction” in the use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy by the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society, according to the report.
Advanced Wound Care Center Among Expansion Plans in Arkansas
A new advanced wound care center is expected to be a component of a 40,000-squre-foot medical plaza being constructed at Mat-Su Regional Medical
Center, Palmer, AK. Groundbreaking for the facility began in August 2017 and has reached the finish of its structural construction phase, according to a report by the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman. The building is scheduled to open this summer.
Independent physician groups and health service providers, oncology services, a pharmacy, general surgery, a variety of multispecialty services, and administrative space are also part of the facility’s layout, according to the report. The combined projects are part of an overall expansion that represents the largest infrastructure investment since the hospital opened more than 10 years ago, according to the report.
Wound Care physician Named Among Medical Center’s Officers
Thomas Trahan, MD, medical director of Lane Wound Care and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Center, Zachary, LA, has been named as a medical staff officer at Lane Regional Medical Center, according to a report by The Advocate. Trahan, a member of Lane Regional’s medical staff since 1988, joins three other physicians who have also been appointed to the board panel.
Wound Care Center Opens Following Hospital Renovations
Officials at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital in Fairfax, a suburb of Washington, DC, recently announced the completion of campus renovations that include a new wound care center, according to a report by Healthcare Design. Formerly known as the Fair Oaks Professional Building and Fair Oaks Medical Plaza, the newly renovated facilities have been renamed the Patient Care Centers at Inova Fair Oaks. Along with the wound center, the buildings house a variety of medical practices among the 160,000 square feet of space, including an urgent care walk-in clinic and diabetes center. Capital improvements to the buildings include renovations to the buildings’ lobbies, restrooms, and common areas; upgrades to the mechanical systems; and finishing a newly renovated clinical timeshare suite. The Patient Care Centers at Inova Fair Oaks flank the 182-bed Inova Fair Oaks Hospital.
Kentucky Facility Welcomes New Wound Care NP
Katherine Meekins, OMS, APRN, FNP-C, has joined the staff at Lourdes Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine and Mercy Medical Associates,
Paducah, KY, according to a report by the West Kentucky Star. A graduate of the University of Southern Indiana and the Chamberlain College of Nursing, Meekins is certified as a family nurse practitioner with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, American Nurse Association,
Association for the Advancement of Wound Care, and Wound Ostomy and Continence Nursing Society. She is also a certified ostomy management specialist and is one of the only certified ostomy advanced practice nurses in the region, according to the report. Meekins previously worked with Lourdes in the positions of intensive care nurse, post-anesthesia care nurse, and float pool.
Wound Care Physician Earns Patient Service Award
Valinda Allen, MD, medical director of Alton (IL) Memorial Hospital wound care center, was recently named winner of the facility’s Patient Service Excellence Award, according to a report by AdvantageNews.com. The award recognizes a physician who shows greater commitment to patients, exceeds expectations in the care of their patients and families, and shows greater commitment in
understanding and responsiveness to the needs of their patients, according to the report.
Wound Care Center Again Earns Joint Commission Gold Seal
Staff members at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center’s wound care clinic, Huntingburg, IN, recently celebrated being awarded the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for wound care. According to a report by the Dubois County Free Press, the Gold Seal of Approval is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care. The facility is reportedly the first in the state of Indiana to gain the certification, which it first earned in 2013. The clinic underwent an onsite review in late 2017, according to the report. Joint Commission experts evaluated compliance with national disease-specific care standards as well as with wound care-specific requirements. Clinical practice guidelines and performance measures also were assessed. Established in 2002 and awarded for a two-year period, the Joint Commission’s Disease-Specific Care Certification evaluates clinical programs across the continuum of care and addresses three core areas, according to the report: compliance with consensus-based national standards; effective use of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to manage and optimize care; and an organized approach to performance measurement and improvement activities.
