Swift Medical Announces U.S. Product Launch

Officials at Swift Medical, a Toronto-based company that provides machine imaging technology and data analytics solutions the healthcare industry, have announced the launch of Swift Wound XL in to the United States market. The product, a wound management system that includes point-of-care measurement and analysis tools, real-time electronic health record (EHR) integration, and advanced remote collaboration capability, is registered by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, according to the company. The device reportedly leverages recent advances in machine vision and machine learning technology, delivering improved patient engagement, advanced healing outcome tracking, and unprecedented insight into population health and wound-risk analytics. This U.S launch follows Swift’s availability throughout Canada and comes on the heels of the announcement made by officials at PointClickCare, a leading electronic health record provider with U.S. headquarters in Bloomington, MN, that Swift would power the company’s skin and wound solution.

“This launch marks the first time Swift Wound XL is broadly available to wound care providers throughout the United States,” said Sarah Cox, vice president of business development at Swift, which houses its U.S. headquarters in San Francisco, CA. “Swift caters to organizations including EHR providers, acute care hospitals, wound clinics, and home health providers who embrace the improved healing outcomes and cost-savings potential made possible by the latest imaging and machine learning technology. We have established partnerships with industry leaders and continue to evolve discussions with organizations who are eager to take advantage of this advancement in wound care management in order to create the best patient experience possible.”

Swift Wound XL leverages the latest machine vision technology, allowing clinicians and patients to see realistic and strikingly vivid visuals that represent actual wound healing, officials said. The system includes Swift Wound, a mobile app that provides point-of-care measurement and analysis tools. When combined with Swift HealX,TM a biocompatible marker that scientifically calibrates wound measurements, Swift turns the ubiquitous smartphone into a precision digital planimetry device. Data can be shared immediately between wound team members who use the app and can be viewed instantly with Metrics, the Swift Wound XL dashboard. Also, in recognition that wound care is part of a larger ecosystem, Swift has deep expertise integrating their wound care management solution with an organization’s own EHR. The result is a smooth and seamless experience that starts at point-of-care and continues throughout every aspect of wound care management up to and including organization-wide wound analytics, officials said.

NPWT System Undergoes Enhancement At Acelity

Officials at Acelity,TM a global advanced wound care company based in San Antonio, TX, has announced two significant enhancements to the V.A.C.ULTA™ Therapy System for the United States market. The product, Acelity’s latest generation negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) system, is now enhanced to improve clinicians’ experiences by leveraging first-to-market connectivity technology, officials said. iOn RESULTS™ Remote Therapy Monitoring (RTM) connects hospitals to Acelity’s unique service and support offering to promote compliance and drive proper patient utilization of therapy. The V.A.C.ULTA 4 Therapy System simplifies functionality, reports summative therapy, and allows for on-screen selection of four different therapies on a single advanced device that can be tailored to a patient’s specific needs and clinician’s preferences. Designed with outcomes and experience in mind, these enhancements combine Acelity’s expertise in advanced wound care with the latest in technology to provide greater accuracy and certainty for clinicians with the goal of improving outcomes for patients while lowering costs, officials said.

“Acelity is leading the transformation to value-based care by enhancing our best-in-class advanced therapies with improvements that take into account the experiences of our customers who are on the front line in treating patients,” said R. Andrew Eckert, president and chief executive officer of Acelity. “The V.A.C.ULTA System has an unmatched reputation in hospitals for delivering the best outcomes for wounds, and with these new features we can better support doctors and nurses by providing real-time monitoring and data to enhance care delivery.”

RTM works in conjunction with the V.A.C.ULTA to monitor the therapy units’ performance in the hospital setting. The system enables timely feedback and therapy application optimization to enhance product performance metrics to identify hospital staff training or support needs.

V.A.C.ULTA 4 Therapy System provides simplified functionality through a software upgrade that provides enhanced pathways to the device’s four negative pressure therapies: V.A.C.® Therapy, V.A.C. VERAFLO™ Therapy, PREVENA™ Therapy, and ABTHERA™ Therapy. The new system provides a device that allows usage of the four different therapies that can be tailored depending on a patient’s needs and the clinician’s varying levels of experience. Therapy setup pathways for each therapy have shown significant reduction in numbers of screens and button pushes, saving clinicians’ time, according to officials. For example, V.A.C. VERAFLO Therapy can now reportedly be initiated with 38% fewer steps.

“By simplifying functionality and making their products and therapies more approachable in daily use, Acelity continues to demonstrate an understanding of the burdens we face, which continue to change in an increasingly complex healthcare landscape,” said Elizabeth McElroy, CWOCN at Reading (PA) Hospital. “These new features are the latest example of how Acelity innovation allows us to focus on our most important job – taking care of people.”

Acelity also recently added FISTULA SOLUTION® devices to help clinicians manage patients experiencing fistula complications. These devices provide nurses with a solution to divert fistula effluent away from surrounding tissue and are used in conjunction with wound management plans ordered by clinicians.

Officials at ConvaTec Group, a global medical technology company, have announced the launch of the Foam LiteTM dressing in the United States. The product is described as a light, flexible silicone foam dressing for managing low to non-exuding chronic and acute wounds. The product’s launch continues the company’s expansion into large, growing segments of advanced wound care, beginning with the successful launch of AQUACEL® foam dressing and, most recently, the European launch of the AvelleTM negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) system into the fast-growing disposable segment of the NPWT market, officials said.
