New Advanced Wound Care Center in Medina, New York, Provides Treatment for Vulnerable Population

In early December 2019, an advanced wound care center serving people with chronic, non-healing wounds opened in Medina, NY. The Wound Care Center at Medina Memorial Hospital is the result of a partnership between Orleans Community Health and Healogics, the largest provider of advanced wound care services in the United States, according to the Union-Sun and Journal. The Wound Care Center at Medina Hospital is a recent addition to the nearly 700 wound care centers in the nation under the Healogics network. 

The Union-Sun and Journal notes a need to provide services across the board, including at the local level in Medina, to prevent the implications of untreated chronic wounds, such as potential amputation and reduced quality of life. In the area surrounding Medina, there is reportedly a very high occurrence of diabetes, and the new center allows residents to seek care and intensive treatment within the region, according to the publisher.

Prospective patients for treatment at the wound care center are individuals dealing with diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, wounds that haven’t healed within an appropriate period of time, comprised skin flaps and grafts, and infections, notes the Union-Sun and Journal. The advanced wound care treatment at the wound care center is rooted in a systematic, evidence-based approach. Each patient receives an individualized treatment plan created by center nurses, physicians, and referring physicians; the treatment plan may comprise debridement, edema management, specialized wound dressings, topical growth factors and advanced cellular products, non-invasive vascular assessment, and/or compression therapy. If open, non-healing wounds are actively cared for using specialized treatments, the center believes the chances of wound healing will increase by 95%, which can prevent amputations.

Non-Profit Rome Memorial Hospital Announces New Medical Director of Regional Center for Wound Care

Rome Memorial Hospital, a non-profit health care system serving patients throughout Central New York, has announced a new medical director for its Regional Center for Wound Care. 

Keneth Hall, MD, FACS, FASMBS, joins a specialized team that provides comprehensive and individualized outpatient care of difficult-to-heal wounds, according to the Oneida Daily Dispatch. The Dispatch notes the center hopes to see new patients within seven days or earlier when possible, as the sooner the evaluation, the faster the healing process can start for the patient. With the addition of Dr. Hall, with whom the team works closely with, referrals are expected to be expedited due to the nature of advanced wound care often needing surgical consult. 

Dr. Hall, who is board certified by the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the American College of Surgeons, attended Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, DC, and earned his medical degree in 2005, notes the Dispatch. Both his residency and general surgery internship were completed at SUNY Stony Brook Medical Center in New York, and he was a research fellow at NYU Winthrop Hospital in Mineola. With a determination of being on the leading edge of advances in surgery, Dr. Hall completed further training in robotic, minimally invasive, and bariatric surgery during his time as a research fellow; he holds multiple specialized certifications.

The Regional Center for Wound Care provides specialized wound care treatments that can assist in new tissue growth, wound tissue regeneration, wound closure, and more; treatment options include biologic skin substitutes, total contact casting, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and negative pressure wound therapy. n
