Bringing Venous Disease Fully Into the Fold at the Journal of Invasive Cardiology
With this issue, I am very excited to announce a new section for the Journal of Invasive Cardiology. The importance of venous disease has been increasingly appreciated in invasive cardiology. Therefore, we are launching a new section, Advances in Vein Therapies. The goal of the section is to focus on venous and lymphatic diseases. We will be particularly interested in original manuscripts involving clinical and basic research. The section will target the multiple specialists involved in this field from cardiology, vascular medicine, vascular surgery, endovascular intervention, and wound care.
I am happy to announce that the distinguished Section Editor will be Nicolas W. Shammas, MD, EJD, MS, FACC, FSCAI, FICA. Dr Shammas is a consultant and endovascular specialist with Cardiovascular Medicine, PC, Davenport, Iowa. He is the Founder and President of the Midwest Cardiovascular Research Foundation and an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He is the author of over 250 manuscripts, abstracts, books, and book chapters and has been involved in more than 200 clinical trials. Dr Shammas has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Invasive Cardiology for the past 12 years. He was trained in internal medicine and interventional cardiology at the University of Iowa and in general cardiology at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, New York. Dr Shammas is board certified in cardiology and interventional cardiology by the ABIM and in vascular medicine and endovascular medicine by the SVM. He is a fellow of several societies, including the American College of Cardiology, the International College of Angiology, and the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions. We are very fortunate at the Journal of Invasive Cardiology to have recruited someone with his immense talent and dedication to the management of venous disorders.
Our hope is to advance the field of venous disease with high-quality scientific data and become a leading resource on this topic for our readers. This may be of particular value for those practitioners who envision broadening the scope of their peripheral vascular practices. We will cover anatomy, pathophysiology, imaging, medical, and endovascular therapies. We welcome your submissions to this exciting new section and look forward to your feedback.
Sincerely,
Deepak L. Bhatt, MD, MPH
