Wall Street Journal: On-Site Medical Clinics Expanding
A recent survey from Towers Watson found that by next year, 39% of large employers in the United States will have on-site health clinics where workers can receive medical care, according to an article in the Wall Street Journal. The newspaper reported the projected figure is a large increase from 23% in 2011 and 28% in 2012.
The Journal noted that nurses and health coaches typically staff the offices. Companies are starting or expanding the clinics because they are facing high health insurance costs and older, sicker patients who have chronic conditions. The newspaper said that the third parties operating the clinics review health screenings and surveys to determine employees who have or are at risk for chronic diseases.
