Benefits of New Technology Merging With Health Care

On Tuesday September 25, 2018, Steve Cutts, vice president of Pharmacy Services and Clinical Strategy at Magellan Rx Management, presented a session titled “Transforming Healthcare with Technology and Consumerism.”

The health care system is continually changing, and technology is always advancing. Technology gives more access to consumers and allows them to have control over their health care experience and outcomes. Additionally, the PBM landscape is also shifting and it is creating an opportunity for care delivery and management to be reevaluated.

Mr Cutts discussed the rise of consumer engagement, as well as explored the role of digital therapeutics, software, and gamification in health care, and future trends during his session. Mr Cutts explained why it is important to keep up with evolving needs and provide value to stakeholders. Additionally, in order to offer the control that consumers are demand, PBMs must seek new and innovative ways to deliver care.

Among some of the innovative technology advances in health care is a new digital platform created by Walgreens. Giovanni Monti, MBA, MIA, vice president and director of Healthcare Innovation at Walgreens Boots Alliance, recently explained to First Report Managed Care how the platform improves health care.

The platform, Find Care Now, is a digital platform and marketplace that can be accessed via the Health Services section of the Walgreens mobile app and on the Walgreens website.

“Find Care Now is part of a series of innovations to offer a true omni-channel experience for Walgreens customers by bringing convenient access to health care providers through the community pharmacy experience,” Mr Monti explained. “Our market research confirmed that customers are looking for these kinds of healthcare options and welcome Walgreens offering them. We think we have an advantage by being the first to build such a full and comprehensive offering with a strong local footprint, personalized care and trusted brands, starting with the Walgreens brand.”

The platform offers a selection of regional and national health care providers and services, including urgent care, health clinics, telehealth, lab testing services and house calls, optical services, and hearing services in certain markets.

“Find Care Now strengthens the Walgreens role as a convenient neighborhood health destination and resource, accessible online and through local stores, offered in collaboration with leading health care providers and networks,” Mr Monti continued. “By combining digital assets with our strong local footprint, Walgreens offers a unique and convenient model for patients to find care built around their needs.
