Advancements in Regenerative Medicine: Autologous Skin Cell Therapy for Burns

Burn wounds require special care and attention for proper healing, with the current standard of care being autologous split-thickness skin grafts (STSGs). However, acquiring STSGs from a patient with severe burns may result in further pain and other morbidities. Autologous skin cell suspension (ASCS) aids in healing with a significantly reduced donor skin size. This article reviews proper care and treatment of burn wounds, including critical insights into the clinical data and best practices for using ASCS to treat burn wounds. Additionally, this article delves into coding information for ASCS and case vignettes to highlight the use of ASCS with various burn wounds.
