Video: Austin-Travis County EMS Practices High-Angle Rescue Training
On June 21, Special Operations Rescue Medics from Austin-Travis County EMS took part in their quarterly training in the Barton Creek Greenbelt.
The training plan for the day consisted of land navigation through the greenbelt, a high-angle rescue scenario at Whiteface, more land navigation, a cave rescue scenario at Spring Cave, and more land navigation to cap off about 8 total miles and a full day of training.
In this abbreviated view of a cliff side scenario, rescue medics arrive to the reported location, evaluate the terrain/challenges of patient access, then quickly send a medic to the patient to assess and begin care. Other members of the team handle the complicated rigging and extraction planning to safely get the patient to the ground and on the way to the hospital.
