National EMS Memorial Foundation to Build Site Despite Pandemic

Despite the COVID-19 crisis postponing site selection regulatory hearings for the National EMS Memorial, the National EMS Memorial Foundation continues to make progress. Under its authorization within P.L. 115-275, the National EMS Memorial Foundation will establish the National EMS Memorial in Washington, DC, recognizing the commitment, service and sacrifice of our nation’s EMS providers.

With the conceptual design of the Memorial fast approaching as part of the site selection process, the National EMS Memorial Foundation has developed a digital process to allow the entire EMS community and the public to convey their understanding of the commitment, service, and sacrifice of the nation’s emergency medical services system. These submissions will allow the designers to access the unique thoughts and perspectives of the entire EMS community as the motivation for the design process. These different perspectives, from across every sector of EMS, will come together within the Memorial itself to provide its strength.

Additionally, NEMSMF has introduced their Commitment, Service & Sacrifice challenge to portray a nationwide look at what drives EMS to be the first line of defense.

Show in pictures, words or both what “Commitment, Service & Sacrifice” mean to you as an EMS provider. NEMSMF is creating a gallery of the images and words that motivate the people of the EMS to keep serving so “that others may live.” Check the NEMSMF website to watch as the gallery grows. Participants in the challenge simply go onto their social media platforms and post what “Commitment, Service, & Sacrifice” mean to them. Tag @emsmemorial and use the hashtags #commitmentservicesacrifice #emscss #emsmemorial. This Gallery will also serve as inspiration for the embodiment of those ideals in the physical structure for the EMS Memorial.
