`Dominican Women Are Hot,` Alleged FDNY Molester Told Patient

New York Daily News

April 11--The lewd on-duty FDNY paramedic arrested for molesting a patient he was transporting to a Bronx hospital targeted his victim because she was Dominican -- and then boasted about his manhood, authorities said Tuesday.

"Dominican women are hot," Karel Delgado, 36, told his 43-year-old patient Sunday during the harrowing ride to Montefiore Medical Center, according to court papers.

"You have such a big p---y, you must be able to take it hard."

Delgado, a 10-year veteran of the FDNY, is facing sex abuse, criminal sex act, forcible touching and official misconduct charges.

The woman had called 911 for help because she was feeling ill, police said.

But when the ambulance was en route to the hospital, Delgado turned from lifesaver to Class A sicko, officials said.

After asking to perform an exam, he allegedly pounced on the woman, squeezing her breasts and touching her genitals.

"Dominican women love men with big penises like me," he told the stunned woman, according to court papers. "This will be over quick."

He then grabbed her by the hair, pulled her down to the ambulance floor and forced her to perform oral sex on him, court papers say.

"See, I told you this would be quick," he allegedly told his victim.

The woman reported the attack to hospital staffers shortly after she arrived, officials said. Bronx special victims squad detectives arrested Delgado on Monday.

It was not immediately disclosed if Delgado's Emergency Medical Service partner, who was driving the ambulance, witnessed the attack or overheard any of his statements. Nor was it clear if any physical evidence was collected to back up the woman's claims.

"There was enough evidence to warrant an arrest," an NYPD source with knowledge of the case said.

A judge ordered Delgado held on $10,000 bail during a brief court appearance Monday night.

Delgado had failed to make bail and was at Rikers Island on Tuesday, awaiting his court appearance, which is scheduled for Friday, according to the city Correction Department website.

Oren Barzilay, head of EMS union Local 2507, on Tuesday night cited Delgado's "unblemished record of service" and said his bond had been posted.

"His family and colleagues are absolutely shocked by the allegations and they will be addressed in the appropriate forum," Barzilay said.

"We respectfully ask the public to withhold a rush to judgment until the conclusion of the case."

The FDNY will suspend Delgado for 30 days without pay, a department spokeswoman said.

"(That's) the maximum suspension," the spokeswoman said.

Attempts to reach Delgado's attorney were unsuccessful.

Reached at his Bronx home, the medic's mother said, "We can't say anything right now. He's a good man."

Delgado is not the first EMS member to be accused of sexual abuse this year.

On March 4, cops arrested off-duty FDNY EMT Frantz Petion, 25, who was accused of raping a 10-year-old girl in Queens.

Petion was attending a birthday party at the child's home in Hollis when he crept into her attic bedroom and locked the door, prosecutors said.
