N.C. County`s EMS Corrects Security Glitch

Oct. 24--GREENSBORO -- Guilford County EMS officials were notified by email of a security issue in its system.

On Monday, EMS director Jim Albright said that the county was made aware of the problem via email about 10 days ago by a hacker who identifies security flaws.

"We were told they could view files," Albright said, calling it a, "security audit."

Patient information and information covered under HIPPA was not exposed, Albright said. He said the problem impacted mobile computers used in ambulances for computer-aided dispatches.

"There was no breach of data," Albright said.

He said the security problem was corrected by Oct. 16 and that the agency has adjusted its security.

A call to Guilford County EMS's IT department for additional information was not immediately returned.
