BRIEF: Norfolk crews assist man with medical emergency on missile cruiser

Andrea Castillo

March 27--Norfolk Fire-Rescue crews assisted a man suffering from a medical emergency on a missile cruiser Friday, a spokesman said.

Officials responded to the USS Vella Gulf at 220 Ligon Street, which is docked at NASSCO, about 12:45 p.m., said Norfolk Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Julian Williamson.

The man, who was disoriented when firefighters arrived, was placed in a technical rescue litter due to his location on the vessel, Williamson said.

Once he was taken off the vessel, he was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
