Women Hit by Ambulance Sues Pittsburgh EMS for Injuries

Adam Brandolph

Sept. 30--A Crafton Heights woman struck by an EMS vehicle that sped through an intersection has filed a civil lawsuit against the driver, the city and Pittsburgh Emergency Medical Services.

Jennifer Batten, 32, claims in the lawsuit filed Monday in Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas that she was crossing from the corner of Brighton Heights Boulevard and Termon Avenue to California Avenue in Brighton Heights on Sept. 11, 2013, when a city-owned SUV drove through the intersection and struck her. The collision, Batten said, caused several injuries, including a broken right wrist and post-concussion syndrome.

Batten said the driver, veteran EMS District Chief Richard Linn Jr., was negligent, reckless and operated his vehicle unsafely.

Linn, who has worked for the city since 1989, could not immediately be reached for comment. Tim McNulty, spokesman for Mayor Bill Peduto, declined comment.
