Pa. Hospital Water Leak Forces Rerouting of Ambulances
A water leak at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest flooded the regular ambulance entrance to the emergency room Wednesday afternoon, but the emergency room remained open, officials said.
"There's a water leak on the ambulance road between the general utilities building and the emergency room," hospital spokesman Brian Downs said.
"We are rerouting those ambulances," he said. "All our patients will go in through the main entrance to the emergency room, which usually is open to walk-ins. Everyone is coming in there now."
No one was injured, and no ambulance has been turned away, he said.
The ambulance road began to flood about 4:15 p.m. at the hospital in Salisbury Township. Initial reports said a sinkhole had opened up, but Downs said there doesn't appear to be a sinkhole.
Nearly an hour after the water appeared, he said, it wasn't clear what caused the flooding.
"I'm calling it a leak at this point," Downs said. "There's a lot water on the road. It's heavy enough that they don't want the ambulances going through there."
