A motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with severe injuries after crashing into an ambulance from behind on Ohio River Boulevard Friday night, authorities said.

Police closed Ohio River Boulevard (Route 65) in both directions for several hours.

George Dudash, the owner of Northwest EMS, said the ambulance was traveling north on Ohio River Boulevard toward the McKees Rocks Bridge when a motorcycle struck the rear of the ambulance around 8:45 p.m. The motorcyclist continued on, crashing further down the road, Mr. Dudash said. He said the ambulance, which sustained minor damage, transported the motorcyclist to Allegheny General Hospital.

Pittsburgh police could not be reached for further details about the crash.
