Three-Vehicle Crash in Calif. Seriously Injures Two
March 23--MODESTO -- A three-car crash on Modesto's Scenic Drive left two drivers with major injuries and closed both lanes of traffic on the thoroughfare for about 90 minutes Thursday morning.
A 17-year-old boy driving a Nissan Sentra east on Scenic veered over the center line for unknown reasons and broadsided a Chevrolet Tahoe traveling westbound about 9 a.m., according to officer Scott Nelson. The Tahoe then was rear ended by Jeep.
The collision occurred just west of Rose Avenue; broken glass, plastic and other debris lay near the crushed Nissan.
The Nissan's driver suffered broken femurs on both legs and a lacerated spleen, Nelson said.
The driver of the Chevrolet, 57-year-old Esmeralda Moreno of Modesto, suffered a broken leg, ankle and right wrist.
Both drivers were taken by ambulance to the hospital.
The driver of the Jeep and a 4-year-old girl who was properly restrained in the back seat had minor injuries.
Scenic was closed for more than 90 minutes between Rose and Brighton avenues.
Officers are trying to determine what caused the crash, but drugs or alcohol do not appear to have contributed.
