BRIEF: Santa Rosa woman airlifted at Mendocino Coast after 75-foot fall

May 25--A Santa Rosa woman was seriously hurt Saturday after falling down a steep hill off the side of a trail on the Mendocino Coast, and she had to be airlifted to safety with two of her rescuers, according to Sonoma County sheriff's personnel.

The woman apparently was climbing down to a beach near Navarro Point south of Albion with companions who were going to dive for abalone when she fell about 75 feet, breaking several bones, sheriff's Deputy Chris Mahoney said.

A paramedic and firefighting personnel from the area headed to the scene to provide initial treatment while the Sonoma County sheriff's helicopter was dispatched around 11:15 a.m., Mahoney said.

Using a 100-foot cable, the copter crew hoisted the woman on a stretcher to the bluff, where she was transferred to a CALSTAR air ambulance for transport to a hospital. Two of the initial responders also were pulled from the scene, Mahoney said.

The woman's name was not available Saturday, authorities said.
