Man says bee caused car to crash into West York bar

GREG GROSS / The York Dispatch 505-5434 / @ydcrime

The driver of a car that crashed into a West York bar blamed a bee for the mishap.

The 60-year-old man, whose name was not released, was traveling south on Overbrook Avenue from West Market Street when the Volvo sedan jumped a curb, went over steps leading to the bar and struck the wall of the Overbrook Cafc about 9:50 p.m.

The man told emergency responders that he swatted at a bee that was in the car at the time of the crash, said Ed Washington, West York fire chief.

The man was taken to York Hospital for minor injuries.

He was the sole occupant of the car, Washington said.

The car didn't penetrate the exterior wall of the bar ,and firefighters deemed the building structurally sound, he said.

No one inside the Overbrook Cafc was injured, Washington said.

The collision did take out a railing on the steps.

Charges against the man are pending, according to West York Police.
