INDIANAPOLIS

Alcohol is believed to have been involved in a crash between a truck and an ambulance Monday, police said.

The wreck happened just after 6 p.m. in the 5200 block of East 21st Street.

Police said the ambulance was driving west on 21st Street with a patient inside when the truck drove into its path.

The two vehicles struck head-on. The truck ended up on its top.

The driver of the truck was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital in serious condition. Police said it's possible the driver was intoxicated at the time.

The three people in the ambulance -- two employees and a patient -- were not seriously hurt.
