DC EMS Workers Not Trained For Possible Terror
DC's ambulance crews and paramedics are criticizing the progress the city has made in preparing for a terrorist attack.
9 News has learned that only one-third of the city's 400 EMS workers has received basic hazardous materials training. The city offered the training to first responders beginning in January of last year.
Fire and EMS Department officials confirm that staffing shortages along with competing priorities kept the majority of the EMS workers from attending the training classes.
A poll conducted by the EMS workers union found 90 per cent of the city's paramedics and ambulance crews felt they were unprepared for a terrorist attack.
City officials say the department has made great strides in training and equipment over the last year.
