Rituals nationwide -- and even worldwide - marked the 7th anniversary this week of 9/11. Thousands paid tribute at the attack sites and countless others marked the event in their home towns.

Chicago officials moved to improve emergency communications this week with a new program dubbed "Notify Chicago." Everyone in Chicago with a cell phone is urged to sign up to receive text messages in the event of a terrorist attack or natural disaster. The program is an enhancement to the current "reverse 911" program.

Ohio is making one of the first efforts in the country to create a next-of-kin database so that rescuers can instantly locate the families of their patients. Ohio residents can add their contacts to the database via the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

Robotic Triage System Aims to Keep Combat Medics Safe

A small Huntsville, Alabama company is developing an automated robotic triage system that can remotely assess a wounded soldier's condition until a hostile area is secured, while the medic is 50 yards away to several miles away from the injured person. The company believes the system will also have commercial applications for any emergency too dangerous for human rescuers.
