Pa. Man Fights With Police, Kicks Out Ambulance Window
--
May 31--Lehigh Township police said on Sunday morning, a "totally uncontrollable" man fought with officers and paramedics during his arrest and kicked out the window of an ambulance, according to court records.
Daniel Frank Marx, 29, of 3708 Mountain View Drive, Lehigh Township, is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, escape, criminal mischief, resisting arrest, obstructing emergency services, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, harassment and public drunkenness. He's in Northampton County Prison under $125,000 bail.
According to court records:
Shortly after 7 a.m., police were called to Marx's home. A neighbor told police he had seen Marx walking around and he "looked like he was on something."
When officers arrived at Marx's home to check on him, Marx was being held down by his father and sister's boyfriend, police said. Family members said Marx had a prescription of 120 Oxycodone pills and the bottles were empty.
As Marx was loaded in an ambulance to Palmerton Hospital, police said he broke out of straps and went after a medic.
The medic told police that Marx was "totally uncontrollable" and "angry." The driver hit the brakes and Marx fell into the driver compartment and kicked out one of the ambulance windows.
An officer from Lehigh Township shot Marx with a Taser and officers from Moore Township secured Marx with leg restraints. Police said Marx continued fighting and one officer was cut during the struggle.
Police said Marx was also cut and blood was splattered throughout the ambulance. Because the window was shattered and a blood pressure cuff was damaged, the ambulance had to be repaired and emergency medical calls were handled by neighboring municipalities.
