Henry Ford Health, Acadia Break Ground on Michigan Facility

Henry Ford Health and Acadia Healthcare have broken ground on a behavioral health treatment and teaching hospital in West Bloomfield, Michigan.

The new facility, which will serve the greater Detroit region, will be a 2-story, 120,000-square-foot building on Henry Ford Health’s West Bloomfield campus. It will open with a 184-bed capacity before expanding to 192 beds, with the ability to add more beds as needed. Henry Ford Health will provide inpatient psychiatric care for adults, seniors, adolescents, and children. It will also serve as an academic site, providing education for psychiatry residents, medical students, and nurses.

As part of the launch of its new hospital, which will be operated by Acadia, Henry Ford Health said in a news release it plans to eventually consolidate its existing inpatient services at Henry Ford Kingswood Hospital and the inpatient unit at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital – Mount Clemens.

Camp Recovery Center CEO Elevated

Phyllis Meagher, MBA, FACHE, chief executive officer of The Camp Recovery Center in Scotts Valley, California, has been elevated to Group CEO, a role in which she will preside over Sierra by the Sea in Newport Beach and Sunrise Ranch in Riverside.

Meagher has more than 35 years as an addiction and mental health treatment administrator, according to the Camp Recovery Center website. She has created and implemented addiction, mental health, and eating disorder treatment services at various levels of care. She has also led the design and implementation of treatment services for co-occurring behavioral health, eating, substance use, and psychiatric disorders, as well as chronic pain.

Meagher has served as an executive in the insurance industry, a role in which she negotiated in-network coverage packages throughout the behavioral health community.

Sheppard Pratt Appoints Executive to Newly Created Position

Sheppard Pratt has appointed Patrick Slattery, MBA, to its newly created chief of specialty programs role. Slattery will provide oversight and administrative leadership to The Retreat by Sheppard Pratt, a residential psychiatric program for adults, as well as The LifeLaunch, a specialized short-term residential program for adolescents with anxiety, mood disorders, and related mental health concerns. Slattery will also be tasked with leading the evaluation, development, and business planning for future specialty programs.

Slattery joins Sheppard Pratt after spending more than 30 years with KidsPeace, a private charity that serves the mental and behavioral health needs of children, families, and communities. Most recently, he served as the organization’s vice president of marketing and business development.

Federal Funding Secured for CODAC Expansion

CODAC Behavioral Healthcare, a not-for-profit outpatient provider of substance use disorder treatment services, announced this week that it is expanding its operations with the help of a $750,000 federal grant secured by US Sens. Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse.

Funds will be used to renovate a new flagship facility in Providence that will offer medical and administration services. CODAC serves about 5000 clients per year.

In a news release announcing the CODAC grant, Reed and Whitehouse also announced an $800,000 First Responders-Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Support Services Act grant, which will be administered by the Rhode Island Department of Health. Funds from the grant are applied toward training and equipment for first responders—including police, firefighters, paramedics, and volunteer organizations—who respond to overdose-related incidents.
