Silver Oxysalts Regulate Oxidative Stress and Promote Cutaneous Wound Healing Independent of Infection

Helen Thomason presents her findings from “Silver Oxysalts™  Regulate Oxidative Stress and Promote Cutaneous Wound Healing Independent of Infection” which was presented at Symposium Advances Skin and Wound Care, Spring 2018. These dressings are non-cytotoxic, kill planktonic bacteria and bacteria within a biofilm and can promote healing, even in non-infected wounds. Chronic wounds often become stalled in the inflammatory phase of healing. Inflammatory cells secrete a cocktail of  proteinases, reactive oxygen species (ROS), and pro-inflammatory cytokines that if not regulated, causes a hostile wound environment that inhibits healing. Inflammatory cells are also high consumers of oxygen and deplete the wound from vital oxygen required by all cell types within the wound. The chemistry of Silver Oxysalts™ (Ag 3+) technology makes it a highly soluble and reactive compound, delivering a powerful and fast-acting ionic silver that may also regulate levels of ROS such as hydrogen peroxide and provide oxygen to the wound, thereby promoting the progress of healing.
