All submissions for consideration must be submitted online through Editorial Manager. Manuscripts should be submitted as Microsoft Word documents with figures and tables attached as separate files. Authors should follow the online instructions provided below for uploading a manuscript. There is no fee to submit or publish a manuscript in Wounds, nor are there any fees associated with including figures/photographs. For first-time users, an author tutorial provided by Aries Systems (developer of Editorial Manager) in PDF format can be accessed here.

Manuscript Formatting Instructions
All submissions should include a structured abstract, full text of manuscript, references, figures and/or tables, and legends. Authors should consult the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals published by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors for further formatting suggestions. Failure to comply with these instructions may result in a delayed review process.

Cover Letter. A cover letter should be submitted that identifies the corresponding author (include the address, telephone number, fax number, and e-mail address). Please make clear that the final manuscript has been seen and approved by all authors and that the authors accept full responsibility for the design and conduct of the study, had access to the data, and controlled the decision to publish. As stated in the Uniform Requirements, credit for authorship requires substantial contributions to: (a) conception and design or analysis and interpretation of data; and (b) the drafting of the article or critical revision for important intellectual content.

In addition, identifying information should only be reported in the Cover Letter (see Review Process section for further information on blinding manuscripts). The Cover Letter must also include the copyright statement provided above.

Abstract. Each article should include a structured abstract summarizing the methods and significant results of the study. Abstracts should be 200 words or less, depending on article type submission.

Text. Manuscripts must be double-spaced and include references, legends, and tables. Citations should be numbered consecutively throughout the entire paper. The following sections must be included in the text of original research, brief communication, and review submissions: introduction, materials and methods or methods, results, discussion, limitations, and conclusions. Case report submissions should include the following sections: introduction, case report, discussion, limitations, and conclusions. Letters to the editor do not require a structured format. More information regarding what should be included in each section can be found at the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals page published by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors.

References. References should be listed at the end of the manuscript. Numbered references must be cited in the same order as found in the text. Please consult the latest edition of the American Medical Association Style Guide (11th edition) for further directions.

Figures/Legends. Digital images should be a minimum of 300 dpi and uploaded with the manuscript as attachments. Additional guidelines include the following:

  • A descriptive legend must accompany each figure or illustration.
  • All abbreviations must be identified at the end of the figure legend.
  • If the figure or graph has been published previously, permission to reprint the figure must be obtained in written format from the copyright owner. Author(s) are required to obtain the permissions and submit the documentation with the manuscript.

ETHICS AND EQUITY POSITIONS
Authors must comply with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines and animal welfare regulations of the author’s institution. Authors must obtain/note the consent of all human subjects who can be identified in photos or in text. Authors should note if and from where IRB approval was received for their work. If not, the circumstances under which the study was exempt from IRB approval should be noted.
