An Observational Study with Hyaluronic Acid Based Biological Bilaminar Matrix in Surgical Foot and Ankle Wounds in Patients with Diabetes: A Case Series
Abstract Body: Objective: Hyaluronic acid base biological bilaminar matrix was used for soft tissue coverage in surgical wounds located at the foot and ankle in patients with diabetes.
Methods: A single application of hyaluronic acid based matrix was evaluated in a case series of patients with foot and ankle wounds. Prior to product application patients underwent operative debridement of foot and ankle wounds. The primary observations for the study completed at the removal of the silicone dressing are reported.
Results: Following a consecutive series of matrix applications, the effect of the hyaluronic acid base biological bilaminar matrix plus standard care, wound infection rate, incidence of wound healing, number of days required for wound healing, and potential associated complications of the graft following surgery. Secondary outcome measures include physician scores on products ease of use and the economic cost of application. Additional studies are warranted to evaluate the mode of action of the of wound matrix with comparison of bioequivalent products.
Conclusion: This study will further aid wound care physicians' decisions on options for advanced therapy surgical graft applications.
