AAWC Update

AAWC and DebRA Join Forces

The Association for the Advancement of Wound Care (AAWC) and the Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa Research Association of America (DebRA) are working together to bring wound care professionals where they’re needed most — to patients and families living with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB).   Association members frequently ask if there are any opportunities to help the underserved in this country. The AAWC’s partnership with DebRA will provide AAWC members a way to volunteer to help improve the quality of care for EB sufferers and their families. Join the AAWC today to take part in this worthwhile effort. For more information on volunteering, contact project manager Karen Strauss at kstrauss@aawconline.org.

Successful AAWC Auction at SAWC Spring

The AAWC held an auction at its membership meeting during Spring 2012 SAWC to raise funds for the AAWC Scholarship Program. The highest bidders won time with past and present board members. Examples of prizes were salsa lessons with Jose Contreras Ruiz at a nearby club, writing tips, wound care discussions, and help crafting a delicious recipe for dinner. Join us at SAWC Spring 2013 in Denver for our second annual auction, where there will be something to bid upon for all interested members and budget sizes! Do you have an idea for a great auction item? Send an email with “AAWC Auction” in the subject line to info@aawconline.org.

Calling for International Volunteers

The goals of this committee are to 1) collaborate with the international community, 2) grow this membership base, and 3) represent the AAWC’s international interests and the interests of our international AAWC members. We are looking for volunteers to get involved from around the world. If interested, send an email with “International Volunteer” in the subject line to info@aawconline.org.

Give a Patient or Lay-Caregiver the Gift of Free AAWC Membership and Education

The AAWC offers free lifetime patient and lay-caregiver memberships. The Association is dedicated to supporting this special category of members. It is our goal to help those who deal with chronic nonhealing wounds. The primary foci of the working group leading these efforts (the Wounds In Need [WIN] Team) is to create an entertaining and educational quarterly newsletter for our members, maintain the Wound Patient/Caregiver Resources pages of the AAWC Website, and develop our presence on Facebook through the AAWC Advocacy for Patients and Caregivers page. Please contact Karen Strauss at kstrauss@aawconline.org for more information. Patients can join online under patient/caregiver resources.

Follow the AAWC on LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a professional network with more than 120 million members. It connects you to your trusted contacts and helps you exchange knowledge, ideas, and opportunities with a broader network of professionals. With that in mind, please look for “Association for the Advancement of Wound Care” and become a “follower” for information and alerts in the field of interdisciplinary wound healing and tissue preservation.
