Pop Quiz: Basal Cell Carcinoma Guidelines

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common human malignancy, with millions of cases diagnosed each year. Further, it has a variety of subtypes, but the common clinicopathologic subtypes are nodular, superficial, morpheaform, and fibroepithelial. The incidence of BCC continues to increase worldwide, and patients with a history of  BCC or squamous cell carcinoma are at an increased risk of BCC.

The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) published updated guidelines of care1 for the management of BCC in 2018 to outline evidence-based options for surgical and medical treatment. These guidelines include recommendations from an expert work group on biopsy, staging, follow-up, and prevention as well as a general outline to approaching care as part of a multidisciplinary team with advanced or metastatic BCC.

Test your knowledge of these expert-recommended approaches to the management of BCC with this pop quiz!
