Laser a Safe Alternative for Treating Acne
A recent study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology sheds light on an exciting development in the treatment of acne. A 1726 nm laser may offer a safe and highly effective alternative to traditional acne therapies.
The study, which reviewed current acne treatment guidelines and conducted a comprehensive literature review of light-based acne therapy trials, highlighted the clinical challenges faced by patients with acne and the limitations of existing therapeutic options. Although current acne treatments are effective, they frequently come with unwanted side effects. Additionally, treatment guidelines have traditionally omitted recommendations for light-based therapies, despite their potential benefits.
Researchers explored various light-based therapies, including the 1726 nm laser, a novel treatment that has proven to be safe and effective for individuals of all Fitzpatrick skin types with mild to severe acne. Patients experienced noticeable improvements within the first month of treatment, with the benefits continuing for up to 2 years after the completion of therapy.
“The 1726 nm laser is safe and effective for treating mild to severe acne in all Fitzpatrick skin types,” concluded the study authors. “Acne resolution is apparent within the first month and improves for up to 2 years beyond treatment.”
