Engaging Multidisciplinary Care for Patients with Atopic Dermatitis

In this video, Dawn M.R. Davis, MD, discusses why dermatologists need to involve other medical specialties in the care of their patients with atopic dermatitis (eczema).

Dr Davis is a professor of pediatric and adolescent medicine and professor of dermatology as well as division chair of clinical dermatology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.

Transcript
Dr Davis: I would like to encourage my colleagues in dermatology to activate your network in the medical community to care for patients with atopic dermatitis. While it is wonderful that we want to be the primary provider of skincare for eczema patients, we are not enough, and it's impractical to be their whole village.

Please don't be afraid or hesitant to reach out to colleagues who have expertise in other areas of medicine that can help our patients and their skin. Please connect with the patient's family medicine provider, advanced practice provider, pediatrician, local social worker, psychologist, psychiatrist, neurologist, sleep hygiene expert, and, of course, allergist.

This is our medical community, and together we can help our patients be better.
