Ablative Fractional Laser Is a Safe and Effective Treatment for Acne Scars

Lisa Kuhns, PhD

According to a study published in Facial Plastic Surgery & Aesthetic Medicine, a recent network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials showed that ablative fractional laser is a safe and effective treatment for acne scars.

Researchers aimed to measure the quartile grading scale and visual analog scale to study the difference between energy-based devices in a network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials. The trials included evaluated patients with acne scars.

Results showed that the ablative fractional laser was more effective than nonablative fractional laser and radiofrequency treatment. However, nonablative fractional laser was more effective than radiofrequency treatment.

“Ablative fractional laser is an effective treatment for acne scars although it is associated with more pain,” concluded the study authors.
