Occasionally, I perform a magic show for the birthday parties of friends’ children, and I joined a magic club to learn new tricks and improve my performances. I think a lot of what I have been learning about magic performance can apply to how I give dermatology lectures and even to how I treat patients. So much of magic is about giving people a great experience.
One of the recent magic club meetings focused on how artificial intelligence (AI) can be used to create, improve, and market magic shows. The speaker presented the use of multiple AI products that could be used to improve script writing, make logos, and even perform digital magic tricks. In some cases, the AI tools would act like a partner for you to bounce ideas off. Seeing the wide-ranging potential of these tools, I immediately began using them for professional writing help and other activities outside of both dermatology and magic. I guess I could have asked AI to write me an informative, entertaining editorial on AI use, but obviously I did not, as I am sure it would have written a more informative and entertaining one.
Last issue, we looked at the development of AI models for use in frozen histopathology. In this issue, we present Dr Ross Pearlman’s first article on AI for our magazine, exploring the use of machine learning models in dermatology. This article has so much information, it is hard to imagine there is anything left to cover. But I am happy to say that this is just the first in a new series. AI tools are developing rapidly. Check it out and you will see another quantum leap forward in our technologic progress.
