The Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants will host The SDPA 13th Annual Fall Dermatology Conference 2015 from November 12 to 15, 2015, in the Tuscan Ballroom at the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel in Orlando, FL. The comprehensive program includes the latest research, news and exhibits in the field.
The program, planned by Medical Director Matthew Zirwas, MD, along with Fall Continuing Medical Education (CME) Keri Holyoak, PA-C, and CME Co-Chair Eileen Cheever, PA-C, is packed with insightful presentations, workshops and opportunities for networking with colleagues.
“Attending the conference is not only the best way to learn the latest updates in dermatology, but your attendance also helps support your professional organization and promote the dermatology PA profession,” said Ms. Holyoak.
Program Highlights
On Thursday evening November 12, attendees, guests and exhibitors will mingle at the SDPA Mixer Event at Loews Portofino Bay Hotel. The
event is sponsored in part by Amgen.
“Attendees should be sure to attend several must-see presentations, including Ashfaq Marghoob, MD, in practice in New York, who will speak on how to recognize skin cancer early in its development using dermoscopy. Dr. Zirwas, in practice in Columbus, OH, will lecture on the urticarial spectrum: chronic urticaria, urticarial vasculitis, urticarial dermatitis, contact urticaria and physical urticaria,” Ms. Holyoak noted.
Sharon Jacob, MD, associate clinical professor and director of the Contact Dermatitis Clinic at Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, CA, will share her insights regarding pediatric contact dermatitis and the first pediatric patch testing registry. Larry Shapiro, MD, in practice in Del Ray, FL, will speak on “What You’ve Been Missing in Male Pattern Hair Loss.”
In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to experience an hour long, one-on-one appointment with national employment consultant, Abby Jacobson. “This exclusive opportunity will enable one to review current compensation rates, prepare for future salary negotiations and explore ways to propose a new position with a future employer,” she said.
The conference also includes 6 workshops (about 2 hours each) on topics including Elements of a PA Contract; Hyperhidrosis; Beginning Surgery, Intermediate Surgery; Advanced Surgery and Dermatopathology.
Other Activities
The event also includes product theater breakfast and lunch sessions, a 5K/walk for charity and poster displays.
5K Run for Charity
At 6:30 am on Saturday morning (November 14), a Miles for Melanoma 5k Run/Walk will be held.
Poster Display
Be sure to stop by and check the poster exhibits, which will be on display for viewing in pre-function area in close proximity to lecture room. The posters will be available from Thursday afternoon to Saturday at 3:00 pm.
CME Certificates
At the conclusion of the Conference or at the time you are ready to depart, attendees can turn in their completed Needs Assessment Survey form to the staff at the SDPA Registration Desk to receive their Certificate of Attendance, said Ms. Holyoak.
The conference organizers have requested 38.5 hours of category 1 CME from AAPA to include the Self-Assessment CME.
