My name's Danielle Butto, and I'm a foot and ankle specialist with Advanced Foot & Ankle Specialists in Avon, Connecticut. The product is Easy Whip. It is a suture device that has a two-part needle that comes apart. It's used for tendon repairs and whip stitching. I mostly use it for tenodesis procedures, as well as tendon transfers with interference screws. I've been using it for a year now.

This product is innovative because of the two-part needle system. It allows you to loop the suture around the tendons and then whip stitch without the tendons being detached, which is very helpful for tenodesis procedures. It's also stronger than the typical suture that we're using. As far as tendon transfers go, it allows you to stitch the tendon first and then put it to the anchor and then into the bone versus taking the suture from the anchor to the tendon, which gives a more biomechanical pull.

The first time I used this product was for a tenodesis procedure. It was on a overweight patient who needed the strength, and it allowed me to actually lock the whip stitch, which is unique to this product. I've also used it for tendon transfers. Again, allowing less suture holes through the tendon, as well as quicker whip stitching, given that the needle can be detached and then reattached. There's no movement of the suture back and forth.
