Applying Collagen To Wounds
An innovative collagen matrix can keep wounds uninfected and speed healing.

PuraPly and PuraPly AM are purified collagen matrices with a polyhexamethylene biguanide hydrochloride antimicrobial agent, according to the manufacturer Organogenesis. The company notes the products are indicated for partial- and full-thickness wounds, pressure ulcers, surgical wounds, traumatic wounds, venous ulcers and diabetic ulcers.

Organogenesis notes that when one uses PuraPly during the first four weeks of treatment, it promotes an optimal environment for wounds of various depths, regardless of their severity or duration. The company adds that PuraPly AM combines purified collagen with polyhexamethylene biguanide for broad antimicrobial coverage and reduction of the bacterial load in the wound bed. The EasyClear Purge forces positive air pressure through the outer lumens of the SensaT.R.A.C. Tubing every five minutes, according to the manufacturer Acelity.

As the company notes, EasyClear Purge aids in clearing fluid from the outer lumens to help maintain pressure sensing ability. Acelity adds that the EasyClear Purge also clears fluid from the inner lumen that is not being pulled up due to a blockage.

Surgeons can take advantage of new amniotic membrane allografts to cover wounds.

Integra® BioFix® and Integra® BioFix® Plus are sterile, human tissue allografts derived from allogeneic dehydrated and decellularized amniotic membrane, according to the manufacturer Integra LifeSciences.
