Healing Heels While Patients Sleep

Podiatric patients can treat dry, cracked heels in three steps with the new Sleep-N-Heel Heel Rejuvenating Kit.

The kit contains Sleep-N-Heel Night Heel Sleeves that provide relief by moisturizing dry skin during sleep, according to the manufacturer Pedinol Pharmacal. Also included is Exfolix, an antibacterial soap bar, which the company says cleanses and exfoliates dry, rough skin. A final product included in the kit is Ureacin-20, a cream designed to dissolve dry layers of skin and stimulate skin cell renewal, according to Pedinol.

Pedinol notes that this at-home heel renewal kit is designed to soften dry, cracked skin on the feet, which tend to be prevalent in podiatric patients. Pedinol adds that the three carefully chosen products in the Sleep-N-Heel Heel Rejuvenating Kit help maintain smooth, healthy skin.

Securing Patient Comfort

A new medical tape may provide comfort to patients while maintaining secure taping.

The 3M Kind Removal Silicone Tape has a silicone-based adhesive technology that provides secure adhesion as well as a gentle, less damaging removal, according to the manufacturer 3M.

3M notes that this tape reacts differently with skin than typical acrylate adhesives found on most medical tapes. The 3M Kind Removal Silicone Tape allows for removal with minimal disruption of fragile skin layers or hair pulling, according to the company.

Healthy volunteers in an 11-day study preferred Kind Removal Silicone Tape to the control tape by a 2 to 1 margin, according to 3M. The company adds that the tape is easy to use and provides an affordable way to support consistency, speed and simplicity.

A Tourniquet Alternative

A new tourniquet dressing sleeve (TDS) may be a useful alternative for healthcare providers who normally use a digital tourniquet when performing certain surgical procedures.

The TDS is made from neoprene material and eliminates the need for hemostat and rubber band or a Penrose drain, according to the manufacturer Brown Medical Industries. The company says the device serves two purposes. It acts as an exsanguinating tourniquet for digital surgical procedures and surgeons can also utilize it as a compressive dressing after the procedure to help with homeostasis.

Brown Medical Industries says the TDS can be beneficial in procedures for the removal of foreign bodies, ingrown toenails, soft tissue masses or warts.
In addition to reducing the need for extra dressing materials, the TDS provides a smaller, cleaner and more uniform dressing, according to Brown Medical Industries. The company notes the TDS is available in small, medium and large sizes.

In addition, patients with diabetes may try the Incredisocks Rx line, which the company says eliminates cold feet and burning foot pain while increasing blood flow and reducing swelling. Incrediwear says the diabetic sock is helpful for vascular deficiencies, neuropathy and Raynaud’s syndrome.
