A Staple In Foot Surgery
A new nitinol bone fixation implant features instant compression and one-step insertion in an easy-to-use kit.
The Super Staple™ Classic provides high constant compression and shape change, and the manufacturer Metric Medical Devices says the instant compression gives the surgeon intraoperative fixation confirmation and saves time. The company says the product’s design offers uniform compression throughout the osteotomy and facilitates active reduction for bone gap management. The implant’s greater fixation force and pull out resistance in comparison to heat activated staples reduce the incidence of fixation failure and risk of nonunion, according to the company.
Surgeons can use the Super Staple Classic for osteotomy fixation and joint arthrodesis, fixating proximal tibial metaphysis osteotomies and adjunctive fixation of small bone fragments, notes Metric Medical Devices. The company says the implant is available in a convenient, sterile kit that includes the necessary instruments to prepare the surgical site and deliver the staple to bone using a push-in technique.
