A Durable Expedition
For active patients who need support, a durable new orthotic may be the answer.

The Expedition orthotic has a carbon fiber module, a Poron XRD midlayer and silver-infused X-Static top cover, according to the manufacturer Footmaxx. The company adds that the orthotic is great for athletes and hikers.

The Expedition has a high strength-to-weight ratio and the company says its carbon fiber module provides increased durability with reduced orthotic weight, which improves performance.
Footmaxx notes that the orthosis’ Poron XRD absorbs 90 percent of energy with high strain impact while retaining its flexibility. The company adds that the Expedition’s X-Static utilizes silver’s natural properties to offer odor control, antimicrobial effects and thermoregulating performance protection.

Titanic Compression
A new nitinol implant reportedly provides more compression in comparison to its closest competitor.

The Speed Titan™ has a tapered body design as well as a wider, low-profile bridge for higher strength and compression, according to the manufacturer BioMedical Enterprises (BME). The implant’s wider bridge tapers into narrower legs, which the company says makes it ideal for high-load, midfoot applications that may have limited space for fixation.

The Speed Titan provides solid, rapid fixation and offers the continual compression that is not possible with standard titanium and stainless steel implants, according to BME. The company says the Speed Titan implant comes ready to use on a preloaded insertion tool and like BME’s Speed system, the Speed Titan utilizes pre-sterilized, fully disposable instrumentation, which supports OR efficiency.

Even Easier Pain Relief
Addressing pain in hospital settings is now simpler with a topical anesthetic in a convenient new package.

Pain Ease® now comes in a single-patient package and can dispense eight to 10 applications, according to the manufacturer Gebauer. The company notes that the instant topical anesthetic skin refrigerant can remain with patients during their hospital stay, which is an option for patients who have pain or anxiety due to needle or suture procedures.

Gebauer says patients spray the topical onto the skin for four to 10 seconds for temporary, instant relief. Each 3.5-ounce Pain Ease package has 40 to 50 applications, according to the company.
