A New Advance In Midfoot Reconstruction?
An emerging reconstruction system may provide more options for surgeons navigating the unique demands of the midfoot.
Wright Medical Technology says its new Ortholoc 3Di Foot Reconstruction System offers indication-specific implants and instruments tailored to midfoot reconstruction.
As the company notes, each Ortholoc 3Di implant provides strength, versatility and low-profile anatomic contours. Wright adds that the Ortholoc 3Di Polyaxial Locking Technology includes 2.7 mm or 3.5 mm locking screws that can lock at up to 15 degrees off axis with the plate.

Reinventing Fixation For The Metaphyseal Anatomy
Shape memory technology may go a long way toward enhancing fixation in challenging anatomical areas.
The nitinol Speed Arc™ is the first superelastic shape memory fixation device that conforms to the sloping surfaces of the metaphyseal anatomy, according to the manufacturer BME. The company says the implant, using continuous active compression, provides fixation along the medial aspect of the metaphyseal flare of the proximal phalange of the hallux and maintains the implant legs parallel to the transverse osteotomy line.
The Speed Arc is ideal for proximal and distal Akin osteotomies, according to BME. The company adds that surgeons can use the Speed Arc Zero-Torque™ Insertion Tool to place the implant precisely and gently in softer bone and sensitive osteotomies.

True Heel Protection
Patients with pressure ulcers may get more secure protection thanks to a new device.
The TruVue Heel Protector has an anti-shear pad to serve as a barrier to shearing forces on the heel from a bed, according to the manufacturer EHOB. The device positions a pillow under the Achilles tendon to provide heel elevation and cushion the tendon from pressure locations, says the company. EHOB adds that a removable external wedge and stability rails deliver a stable base that can overcome torsional forces and resist leg rotation.
The TruVue Heel Protector holds the leg and foot, while allowing for full range of motion, notes EHOB. In addition, the company says the product’s anti-foot-drop straps alleviate pressure points around and on the base of the foot and the deep, V-cut heel well fully offloads the heel.

High Quality, Low Radiation
With an emerging X-ray system, one may get high-quality images with lower radiation.
The HF PXS-710, recently approved by the FDA, is the first anatomically programmed digital X-ray system for the podiatry profession, according to the manufacturer 20/20 Imaging. The company notes the low-dose system has each podiatry X-ray technique anatomically pre-programmed to save time.
The company adds that the device further enhances efficiency by enabling one to select exams at the technologist workstation instead of at the device. The HF PXS-710 eliminates the step of selecting X-ray technique from an X-ray control box.

A Possible Remedy For Offloading
Patients who need to stay off their feet can get help from a new offloading shoe.
The Remedy Pro™ Off Loading Shoe can reduce forefoot pressure for patients with forefoot trauma, and diabetic ulcers or wounds, according to the manufacturer DJO Global. The company says the 15-degree wedge design promotes healing by transferring the weight behind the metatarsophalangeal joints and reducing pressure on the forefoot.
DJO Global says the Remedy Pro features an adjustable forefoot closure, a square toe box and sturdy outer sole. Other features include a seamless, padded heel, a durable, padded liner and an adjustable ankle strap.
