A Gentler Wound Dressing
Podiatrists can treat a variety of wounds with a new dressing that patients can easily remove.

The Tielle Silicone Border Dressing combines Liqualock Advanced Absorption Technology with a soft silicone adhesive, according to the manufacturer Acelity. The company says this combination minimizes the risk of leakage and also allows gentle dressing removal.

Acelity notes the hydropolymer foam of Tielle locks fluid away, facilitates atraumatic removal in patients with fragile and sensitive skin, and minimizes the risk of maceration. The company adds that the dressing’s moist wound healing encourages natural debridement and that wear time is up to a week, depending on the condition of the wound and exudate levels.

Airtight Plate Fixation
Emerging plate technology can help surgeons treat various sites in the lower extremity.

Airlock is available in Open/Close Wedge Plates, Lapidus Plates, MTP Plates and Utility Plates for the forefoot, according to the manufacturer Novastep. The Open/Close Wedge Plates are low profile and facilitate accurate placement with minimal incision or soft tissue compromise, notes the company. Available in various lengths, the plates are also compatible with locking or non-locking screws, have K-wire holes for provisional fixation, and have trial plates for exact fits.

Novastep says the Airlock MTP Plates are engineered for precise reduction, compression and locking in the treatment of first metatarsophalangeal joint pathologies. The company notes that its plate configuration safeguards the optimal position for arthrodesis and placement of complementary fixation.
